1868

Mintage:  10,266,500

Proofs:  600+

Comments:  1868 cent production was similar to the previous two years and should be priced similarly.  Locating original and attractive examples will be difficult.  My advice is to be patient and choose only the most eye appealing and problem free example requisite for the collection.  Collectors should carefully evaluate coins of this date in slabs, as these are frequently overgraded.

The majority of die varieties for 1868 are minor repunched dates.  There are three doubled die varieties for this year, but they too are minor.  The best variety for 1868 is variety 13, with the large hub through on the reverse.
