1908

Mintage:  32,326,367

Comments:  1908 has the fourth lowest mintage of the 1900's, behind 1908-S, 1909 and 1909-S.  Mintage figures for the cent in 1908 dropped significantly from 1907, which holds the distinction of the highest mintage of cents at 108,137,143.  Surviving examples are plentiful in all grades regardless of the mintage, so collectors should choose the most eye appealing and well struck examples for the grade.

1908 offers an excellent hunting ground for collectors of misplaced digits, with which some are combined with repunched dates on the same obverse.  Repunched dates are quite minor for this year, with the exception of variety 1 and variety 12.  The best variety for the year is variety 1 with bold triple punching to the south and north on the 9.
