Obverse 72 is identified by date placement at C and date repunching
that features initial date impressions to the the northwest within the
lower loop of the 9, to the northwest within the 0 and to the south
below the flag of the 7. Obverse 72 has developed light die
flow lines. Obv. 72.2:
Obverse 72 has developed heavy die flow lines.
Reverse AAS is in a similar die state as Obverse 72, with the
advancement of light die flow lines. Rev. AAS.2:
Reverse AAS has developed heavy die flow lines.
Comments: Variety
70 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above
plate coin during mid May 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the
Obverse 72 date repunching. David's submission included two
other examples of Variety 70 that represented a subsequent later die
state with the development of heavy die flow lines. Since
both were in equivalent die state, I chose one to be plated below in
order to capture the Variety 70a die state.
