Clash Mark Through The C of CENT

Obverse 80 is identified by date placement at B and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the north above the ball of the 9 and to the southwest below the bases of the 06. Obverse 80 has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AAAD. Obverse 80 develops the following die crack and break:
1. Light die crack from the denticles at 8:45 to the E of UNITED, where a small die break connects the top of the E with the center.

Reverse AAAD is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and has acquired a clash mark through the C of CENT from a clashing event with Obverse 80. Reverse AAAD develops the following die cracks:
1. Moderately heavy die crack from the rim at 8:15 upward through the left wreath.
2. Die crack from the rim at 11:00 downward through the left wreath.

Comments: Variety 81 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during late July 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the date repunching of Obverse 80.
