Obverse 74 is identified by date placement at C, misplaced 906 digits
in the denticles below the primary 906 digits of the date and repunched
date that features an initial date impression to the north above the
right base of the 1 and an initial date impression to the north above
the ball of the 9.
Reverse AAX is rotated 9 degrees clockwise.
Comments: The
above plate coin was submitted by David Killough during mid January
2018 for inclusion in this book based on the misplaced digits and
repunched date of Obverse 74. Upon examination of David's
coin, I have found that his coin was struck from a previously
identified die pairing originally discovered by Kevin Flynn.
However, David's submission provided a plate coin to
illustrate Variety 75 as well as the Variety 75 attributes of the
Obverse 74 date repunching and Reverse AAX die rotation that were not
previously mentioned in Flynn's discovery.
Close examination of the Obverse 74 misplaced digits reveals two
separate impressions of the 6 digit in the denticles, which would
indicate at least two initial date impressions into the denticles
occurred.
David's submission included two examples of the Variety 75 die pairing,
which brings a total of three examples known thus far.
