Reverse M.2 Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 13 is identified by date placement at C and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south below the base of the 1, to the northeast within the 0 and lower loop of the 6.

Reverse M has acquired a clash mark through (C)ENT.
Rev. M.2:  Reverse M has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 2:00 extends upward through the right wreath.
2.  Severe die crack from the rim at 3:00 extends downward through the outer edge of the lower oak leaves and the tip of the middle arrowhead, where it exits into the rim at 4:00.
3.  Moderately heavy die crack from the rim at 11:00 extends downward into the top of the left wreath

Comments:  Variety 12a was first identified by this author during early February 2022.  Variety 12a is characterized by Reverse M developing die cracking, with the most severe die crack located between 3:00 and 4:00.  The severity of this die crack may portend the development of a die break in this area during a subsequent Reverse M die state.

Several 1906 reverses crack in the same location as the Reverse M die crack between 3:00 and 4:00.  One notable 1906 reverse that developed die cracking in the same identical location and almost identical manner is Reverse AAB of the 1906 Variety 53 Die Pairing, which developed a retained break between 3:00 and 4:00.

Plate Coin (Variety 12):  Robert Malo, Jr., VF35
Plate Coin (Variety 12a):  Mark Clewell Collection, XF45
