1902

Mintage:  87,374,704

Comments:  1902 represents another high mintage year with many surviving examples available.  Although examples are plentiful, collectors should seek out the very best coin in the requisite grade.

Die varieties are relatively minor for this year, with the exception of variety 4, with die file marks by the eye.  Variety 4 is included in the top 100 die varieties.  The best repunched date seems to be variety 13, which uses the same obverse as the Proof 3 die pair.  Variety 14 features a minor doubled die reverse.  Variety 9 is highly collectable, as it features a  repunched date and a misplaced digit in the denticles that extends into the field.
