Obverse 40 is identified by date placement at RE and date repunching
that features initial date impressions to the south within the upper
loop of the 9, within the 0 and below the serif of the final 1.
Obverse 40 has developed moderately heavy to heavy die flow
lines.
Reverse AN is in a similar die state as Obverse 40, with the
advancement of moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines.
Comments: The
Obverse 40 date repunching is very similar to Obverse 41 from the Variety 36 die pairing.
Variety
35 was
first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin
during late July 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 40
date repunching.
