The second usage of Reverse I.
Reverse I is rotated 6 degrees
clockwise and has acquired clash marks through (C)ENT from a clashing
event from its previous service. Reverse I has developed
moderately
heavy to heavy die flow lines and the following die cracks:
1. Heavy die crack from the rim at 5:00 through the lower
wreath and olive leaves to the rim at 7:45.
2. Moderately heavy die crack from the rim at 10:45 downward
through the outer edge of the left wreath to a point at 8:30.
Comments:
Variety 23 represents the second usage of Reverse I, which
was previously in service paired with Obverse 9 during the 1892 Variety 7 Die Pairing.
Variety 23 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the
above plate coin during late July 2018 for inclusion in this book based
on the die cracking of Reverse I.
