Obverse 24 is observed with date placement at LE.

Reverse V is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die Crack from the denticles at 3:00 extends upward along the outer edge of the right wreath.
2.  Heavy die crack from the rim at 3:00 extends downward through the outer edge of the oak leaves, through the middle and lower arrowheads, through the right ribbon end and into the rim at 5:00.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 8:30 extends upward through the outer edge of the left wreath to the rim at 10:00.  A small break has developed at the upper section of the oak leaf at 9:30.
Rev. V.3:  Reverse V has now developed a retained cud between 3:00 and 5:00.

Comments:  Variety 22 represents the second usage of Reverse V, which was previously in service paired with Obverse 22 during the 1892 Variety 20 Die Pairing.

During its second usage within the Variety 22 Die Pairing, the Reverse V die cracks have now become more severse in comparison to Reverse V's initial usage.  The die cracking downward from 3:00 has become more severe and extends to the rim at 5:00.  During the subsequent Reverse V.3 Die State, the section between 3:00 and 5:00 will break from the working die and form a retained cud.

Variety 22a was first identified by this author during late January 2020.
