Obverse 1 is identified by date placement at RE, with date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south below the serif and base of the 1.  Obverse 1 has acquired clash marks in front of the eye, above the first three feathers and between feathers 5 through 9 from a clashing event with reverse A.
Obv. 1.3:  Obverse 1 has now developed heavy die flow lines.

Reverse A is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and is identified by die scratches within the denticles at 8:00.  Reverse A has acquired clash marks through the C of CENT and to the right of the denomination from a clashing event with Obverse 1.
Rev. A.3:  Reverse A has now developed heavy die flow lines as well as the following die crack:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 7:30 into the wreath through the olive leaves and ribbon knot.

Comments:  The Variety 5 die pairing was initially in service striking proof cents during the Proof 1 die pairing.  Prior to publication in this book, the Variety 5 die pairing was listed in Rick Snow's book as employing only the obverse die from the previous proof die pairing.  However, this author has confirmed that both obverse and reverse from the previous proof die pairing were placed back in service during the Variety 5 die pairing for the purpose of business strikes.
