Rim Break At 11:15


Obverse 14 is identified by date placement at LE and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the southwest within the upper loop as well as to the northwest within the lower loop of the 8 and to the north within the lower loop of the 6.  Obverse 14 has acquired clash marks above the first three feathers and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack segment extending above the top of 'O(F)'
2.  Die crack segment extending along the tops of 'A(MER)ICA'.

Reverse AAJ is rotated 7 degrees counter clockwise and is observed with heavy die lines between the right wreath and the rim.  Reverse AAJ has developed a rim break at 11:15 and the following die crack:
1.  Radial die crack from the rim at 11:15 extends downward through the top of the left wreath.

Comments:  Variety 41 represents the third usage of Obverse 14, which was previously in service paired with Reverse AAH during the 1865 Fancy 5 Variety 40 Die Pairing.

Variety 41 was first identified by Paul Nomes, who submitted the above plate coin during late June 2021 based on his discovery of the Obv. 14 / Rev. AAJ Die Pairing.
