Obverse 39 is identified by date placement at LH and date repunching
that features initial date impressions under the serif and hight points
of the 1, within the upper loop to the south and lower loop to the
north of the 9, within the 0 to the north and within the lower loop of
the 5 to the north.
Reverse AN is rotated 10 degrees clockwise.
Comments: Variety
39 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above
plate coin during mid February 2017 for inclusion in this book based on
the date repunching of Obverse 39. Close examination of Obverse
39 reveals an initial digit punch impression into the working die that
was tilted counterclockwise with respect to the final date position.
The date repunching of Obverse 39 is very similar to that of Obverse 54 of the Variety 54 die pairing.
