Obverse 42 is identified by date placement at C and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south below the upper loop and within the lower loop of the 8; to the north above the lower loop, above the upper loop and to the south within the upper loop of the 6.  Obverse 42 has developed moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines.

Reverse AQ has developed heavy die flow lines, a small break below the right arm of CEN(T) and rim breaks between 5:45 and 11:00.

Comments:  Variety 39 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted a VF35 example of Variety 39 during late July 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 42 date repunching.

During mid November 2018, David Killough submitted a second example that graded AU53 that I utilized as the new Variety 39 Plate Coin that replaced the previous VF35 graded Plate Coin.

Obverse 42 and Reverse AQ differ in die state, with Obverse 42 exhibiting moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines and Reverse AQ exhibiting heavy die flow lines in comparison.  The difference in die state would suggest a previous assignment of Reverse AQ prior to service during Variety 39; though identifying Reverse AQ in an earlier die state during a previous die marriage would prove difficult, since Reverse AQ lacks any die attributes other than the later die state developments of the small die break under the right arm of CEN(T) and the rim breaks.  The following compare the die states of Obverse 42 and Reverse AQ during the Variety 39 die pairing:
