Variety 27
Obverse 30 is identified by microscopic repunching to the west on the 1
and repunching to the southeast and north on the 6, with date placement
at RE. Obverse 30 has developed moderately heavy to heavy die
flow lines and has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye from a
clashing event with Reverse AE.
Reverse AE is rotated 6 degrees clockwise and is in a similar die state as Obverse 30, with the
advancement of moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines. Reverse
AE has acquired a clash mark through the C of CENT from a clashing
event with Obverse 30.
Comments: Variety 27 was
first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin
during mid February 2017 for inclusion in this book based on the date
repunching of Obverse 30.
Cent production from the Variety 27
die pairing would have been sufficiently high. However, David's
coin is the first to be identified and this is surprising when
considering the boldness of the repunching to the southeast on the 6.
The
clashing event between Obverse 30 and Reverse AE occurred during the 6
degree die rotation of Variety 27. The resulting clash marks of
Obverse 30 and Reverse AE will fade due to the advancement of die flow
lines.
