Reverse AE Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 31 is observed with date placement at RH and digit punch artifacts around the 3 of the date.  Obverse 31 has developed heavy die flow lines.

Reverse AE is in a similar die state as Obverse 31, with the advancement of heavy die flow lines.  Reverse AE has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack segment along the outer edge of the right wreath between 1:15 and 2:15.
2.  Moderately heavy die crack from the rim at 3:15 downward through the the outer edges of the oak leaves and through the middle and lower arrowheads to the rim at 5:00.
3.  Light die crack from die crack #2 at the lower arrowhead continues along the lower arrow shaft and into the right ribbon end.
4.  Light die crack segment through the oak leaves and into the ribbon knot.
5.  Die crack segment extends along the top of the shield.

Comments:  Although the artifacts around the 3 appear to be the result of date repunching, they are actually artifacts of the digit punch that impressed the date into Obverse 31 and appear on many 1883 obverses.

Variety 26 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during late August 2019 for inclusion in this book based on the die cracking of Reverse AE.
