Obverse 24 was struck with misaligned working dies and is identified by a defective digit punch artifact above the 3 with repunching to the south on the 3, with date placement at LE.  Obverse 24 has developed heavy die flow lines with die erosion evident by the feathers.

Reverse X develops a retained cud between 3:30 and 5:00.  Reverse X is in a similar die state as obverse 24, with the advancement of heavy die flow lines.

Comments:  The variety 19 die pairing, which was initially identified by this author during late May 2016, indicates that the reverse X die break occurred during an advanced die state of variety 19.

The date repunching of obverse 24 will fade due to the advancement of heavy die flow lines.  However, the defective digit punch artifact above the 3 will remain visible, though not as sharp as in earlier die states.

Plate coin:  D. Poliquin Collection, MS63BN
