Die Line between F of OF and A of AMERICA


The second die pairing o obverse 22, which may be identified by a small die line from the denticles between O of OF and A of AMERICA.  Obverse 22 is observed with a downward sloping date with date placement at C and excessively polished eye socket and base of the first feather.  Obverse 22 develops light die flow lines and the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack connects the tops of UNITED STATES.

Reverse AS is observed with die polish lines from the arrow quill and olive leaves.

Comments:  Obverse 22 was previously in service paired with the famous doubled die reverse during the 1865 Fancy 5 variety 25 die pairing.

This author identified variety 26 during mid November 2016 through the above plate coin that was included in the inventory of Ed Nathanson.  After contacting Ed in regards to my observations, Ed was extremely kind in immediately submitting the coin for inclusion in this book.
