Obverse 2 is
identified by date
placement at RH and date repunching
that features an initial date impression to the north within the lower
loop and to the south below the base of
the 5.
Reverse B is rotated 6 degrees clockwise and is more deeply hubbed on the left side compared to the right side.
The above plate coin was submitted by David Killough during mid August
2023 as an earlier die state of the 1905 Variety 68 Die Pairing.
Upon examination of David's coin, I was able to determine
that Obverse 2 was paired with a previously unidentified reverse.
The difference between Reverse B of this die pairing and Reverse
AAQ from the Variety 68 Die Pairing is that Reverse B was unevenly
hubbed, which resulted in a more deeply hubbed left wreath and the
appearance of outlines around (CE)NT. The outlines are
transferred from the master die and their visibility on struck coins is
relative to hubbing depth of working hubs and working dies.
