Obverse 54 is observed with date placement at B and an artifact within the lower loop of the second 9.  Obverse 54 has acquired a clash mark presumably from a clashing event with Reverse AAB and has developed a small die break atop the eighth feather.

Reverse AAB has yet to be observed with any die markers.

Comments:   The Obverse 54 artifact located within the lower loop of the second 9 is identical to the artifact within the lower loop of the second 9 of Obverse 51 from the 1899 Variety 47 Die Pairing.  When attributing the Variety 50 Die Pairing, I initially thought this was an earlier die state of Variety 47 based on the same date position and orientation as well as reverse hubbing depth characteristics.  However, the difference in appearance between the Obverse 51 eighth feather die break and the Obverse 54 eighth feather die break convinced me to publish Variety 50 as a separate die pairing.

Variety 50 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during early July 2022 for inclusion in this book based on the second 9 artifact and the eighth feather die break of Obverse 54.
