Die Break atop the Eighth Feather

Obverse 31 is identified by moderate repunching to the south below the serif of the 1 and upper loops of the 896 digits, with date placement at RH.  Obverse 31 has developed heavy die flow lines and a small die break at the tip of the eighth feather.

Reverse AF is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and is in a similar die state as Obverse 31, with the advancement of heavy die flow lines.

Comments:  Variety 28 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid February 2017 for inclusion in this book based on the date repunching of Obverse 31.

Variety 28 has suffered neither clashing nor die cracking during its service.  The eighth feather die break is a typical failure point for obverses from the late 1800's onward.

Plate coin:  David Killough Collection, AU55 (Snow 8 Plate Coin)
