Obverse 45 is observed with date placement at RH.  Obverse 45 has acquired a light clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AR.

Reverse AR has acquired a clash mark through (C)ENT from a clashing event with Obverse 45 and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 3:15 downward through the right wreath to the rim at 5:00.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 5:45 upward through the left ribbon end and olive leaves to the rim at 8:15.
3.  Light die crack from the denticles at 11:00 downward through the outer edge of the left wreath.
Rev. AR.2: Two small die chips have developed along the die crack between 5:45 and 8:15, with one chip located above the lower olive leaf and the second located above the highest olive leaf.
Rev. AR.3:  The Reverse AR die cracks have become incrementally more severe and the uppermost die chip located above the highest olive leaf has increased in size.

Varieties 43 and 43a were first identified by David Killough, who submitted both during mid May 2020 for inclusion in this book based on the die cracking of Reverse AR.

During mid August 2023, David Killough submitted an example of Variety 43 that featured the uppermost die chip located above the highest olive leaf at a much smaller size compared to the die chip from the Reverse AR.3 Die State. David's example is now the Variety 43a Plate Coin, which represents an interim Reverse AR die state.
