Obverse 28 is observed with date placement at LH and has acquired a
clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event
with Reverse AC. Obverse 28 has developed the following die
cracks: 1. Light die crack connecting the tops of ERICA of AMERICA. 2. Light die crack connecting the bases of the 188 digits of the date.
Reverse AC has acquired a clash mark through the C of CENT from a
clashing event with Obverse 28. Reverse AC has developed the
following die cracks: 1.
Heavy die crack from the rim at 4:00 through the lower half of
the wreath and into the olive leaves. A retained break has
developed between the middle and lower arrow shafts. 2. Heavy die crack from the rim at 6:45 into the arrow quill and connecting with die crack #1. 3.
Moderately heavy to heavy die crack from the olive leaves upward
through the outer left edge of the left wreath to a point at 10:15. 4. Light die crack from the denticles at 8:30 into the wreath.
Comments:
Several 1887 reverses develop die cracking both in varying
degrees of severity and location. Recognizing the specific die
cracking patterns of these reverses will be necessary for accurate
attribution.
