Reverse U Die Crack

Obverse 20 is identified by date placement at RE and the top a misplaced digit in the denticles below and to the right of the primary 7 of the date.

Reverse U develops the following die crack:
1.  Die crack from the denticles at 7:00 through the middle olive leaf and extending upward through the wreath.

Comments:  During late October 2016, Ed Nathanson submitted the above plate coin for inclusion in this book based on the misplaced digit of obverse 20.  Upon inspection of the coin, I determined the coin was struck from a previously identified die pairing that was discovered by Kevin Flynn.  Careful examination reveals no other misplaced digits in the denticles which would be expected from a misplaced digit punch impresion.  In addition, the position of the misplaced 7 reveals no excessive sloping of an initial digit punch impression that would have left the digits too far downward from the face of the working die to appear in the denticles.

Plate coin:  Ed Nathanson, AU50
