1887 Variety 1

Obverse 6

Reverse G

Obverse Diagnostics

Date Position

Reverse Diagnostics

Cud Between 2:30 and 4:30

Obverse 16 is observed with date placement at C.

Reverse G develops a cud between 2:30 and 4:30.

Comments:  The reverse G cud complex is quite interesting in that it consists of a retained portion between 2:30 and 3:30 and a section between 3:30 and 4:30 that has completely fallen out of the working die.

Variety 1 was first brought to my attention by a coin listed for sale during late August 2015 by Richard Bolanowski.  Richard was very kind in allowing me to use his images to illustrate variety 1 for the web book.

Plate Coin:  Richard Bolanowski, G4
