1884 Variety 8

Obverse 11

Reverse M

Obverse Diagnostics

Date Position

Cud Between 2:15 and 3:45

Obverse 11 is observed with date placement at B.  Obverse 11 develops a cud between 2:15 and 3:45.

Reverse M has yet to be observed with any die markers.

Comments:  The variety 8 cud was first identified by Basil Lepeniotis, who listed the above coin for sale during early June 2016.  Basil was extremely kind in allowing me to use his images to illustrate variety 8 for this book.

During the obverse 11 cud die state, reverse M will exhibit weakness at 3:00 due to the increased demand for metal to fill the void left by the obverse 11 cud.
