Obverse 18 is identified by date placement at RE and date repunching that features initial date impressions located to the southeast within the upper loop of the first 8 digit as well as both loops of the second 8 digit.

Reverse R has acquired clash marks and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 12:45 extends along the top of the shield and exits into the denticles at 11:15.
2.  Die crack extendting downward from the outer edge of the upper right wreath to the middle arrowhead.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 3:15 extends into die crack #2.
Reverse R.2:  The Reverse R die cracking has now become more severe and die crack #2 now extends through the lower arrowhead and right ribbon end, where it exits into the rim at 5:00.

Comments:  Variety 14 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the Variety 14a Plate Coin during early December 2022 for inclusion in this book based on the die cracking of Reverse R.

During late June 2024, David Killough submitted an 1881 Indian Cent that featured negligible date repunching and a cracked reverse.  Upon examination of David's coin, I was able to determine his coin was struck from an earlier die state of the Variety 14 Die Pairing.  David's submission was fortuitous in regard to the date repunching of Obverse 18, which was not previously identified.
