1876 Variety 5

Obverse 7

Reverse E

Obverse Diagnostics

Date Position

Artifact Below Nose (Click Image To Enlarge)

Obverse 7 is identified by date placement at LH and an artifact located below and to the right of the nose of Miss Liberty.

Reverse E is rotated 10 degrees counter clockwise and has acquired clash marks presumably from a clashing event with Obverse 7.  Reverse E is weakly hubbed on the right side.

Comments:  The Obverse 7 artifact below the nose of Miss Liberty is most likely a localized area of die rust.

Variety 5 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during early December 2022 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 7 artifact.
