Obverse 18 is identified by date placement at RH, die scratch below the
ear and date repunching that features an initial date impression to the
south below the base of the 1.
Type I Reverse B is rotated approximately 12 degrees clockwise.
Comments: Type
I Reverse B represents one of the remaining Type I reverses, which
feature a shallow O(N)E. During 1870, the Type I reverse was
superseded by the Type II reverse hub design, which features a bold
O(N)E. Accounting for only 4 reverses thus far identified
that were in service in 1872, the Type I Reverse is scarce compared to
the Type II Reverse.
