Bronze Variety 44
Obverse 62 is observed with date placement at LH.
Reverse AAAV is rotated 118 degrees clockwise and has acquired clash marks located at the upper left of (O)NE.
Comments:
The Obverse 62 date position is very similar to that of Obverse 56 from the 1864 Bronze Variety 40 Die Pairing,
which also exhibits working die rotation. The primary difference
between Obverse 56 and Obverse 62 is the appearance of the 1 digits of
the date.
Variety 44 was first identified by David Killough, who
submitted the above plate coin during early July 2022 for inclusion in
this book based on the die rotation of this die pairing.
