Obverse Diagnostics

Repunched 863 to the South

*Close-up of date is courtesy of Flying Eagle and Indian Cent Attribution Guide by Rick Snow*

Comments:  Date placement is B.  Repunching is visible in the upper loops of the 863.  The repunching looks very similar to that of  the 1863 variety 3 obverse, but that repunching is to the southwest.  Rick Snow indicates that there is a die line from the 7th feather to the left base of M of AMERICA.

Rick Snow indicates that the left wreath develops a die crack from 9:00 to 10:00.
