Obv. 103.2 Die Crack (Click Image To Enlarge)

The second usage of Obverse 103.  Obverse 103 is identified by date placement at RH and date repunching that features an initial date impression to the west within the lower loop of the 3 digit.  During this second usage, the Obverse 103 die crack through the date as well as the die crack from the rim at 7:15 to the bust point have become more severe.

Reverse AAAAI is rotated 3 degrees counter clockwise.

Comments:   The above plate coin was submitted by David Killough during late June 2024 for inclusion in this book as an example of Variety 108 with Reverse AAAAF uncracked.  Upon examination of David's coin, I was able to determine that his example was struck from Obverse 103 and a reverse other than Reverse AAAAF.

Obverse 103 was previously in service paired with Reverse AAAAF during the 1863 Variety 108 Die Pairing.
