Reverse AAAB.2 Die Break

The second usage of Obverse 76.  Obverse 76 is observed with date placement at left edge of denticle.

Reverse AAAB is observed with artifacts among the vertical shield bars and a moderately severe die crack between 6:00 and 8:15.
Reverse AAAB:  Reverse AAAB has now developed a die break between 6:00 and 8:15.

Comments:  The Reverse AAAB.2 die break was first identified in the book 'The Design Cud', by Paul Marvin and Arnold Margolis.  The Marvin & Margolis reference number is 1C-1863-12R.

Keith Bock provided this author with the Variety 78a Plate Coin during early September 2018.

During late May 2026, John Grimmer identified the above plate coin of which Reverse AAAB features a cracked die state.  John's submission enabled me to determine that Obverse 76 was in service prior to the Variety 78 Die Pairing based on the more advanced die state of Obverse 76 compared to Reverse AAAB.
