Obverse 13 is identified by date placement at RH and the tops of
misplaced 908 in the denticles below the date.
Reverse
M is observed with a die line downward from the middle olive leaf.
Comments: During
late July 2018, David Killough submitted the above plate coin in order
for me to be able to illustrate Variety 11 for this book.
Upon examination of the Obverse 13 misplaced digits, I
discovered the top of a misplaced 9 digit that was previously
unidentified. I then performed an overlay to determine the
orientation and location of the misplaced digits and found that the 9
and 0 digits overlayed perfectly, while the 8 digit did not.
Therefore, I theorized that Obverse 13 was impressed with two
initial date impressions into the denticles. The first two
digits in the denticles are a result of the first initial date
impression, which is located far to the southeast of the primary date
and is illustrated in the overlay above within the Obverse 13
diagnostics. The last digit in the denticles is the result of
the second initial digit punch impression, which was most likley
orientated counter clockwise with respect to the final date placement
and would explain why only the 8 is visible in the denticles.
