Reverse AU develops the following
die
cracks:
1.
Radial die crack extending from the rim at 2:15 and
continuing through the wreath and into the field. A die break
forms on the oak leaf at 2:15 as a result of the convergence of this
radial die
crack and die crack #2 below
2.
Die crack extending from the radial die crack from above
and continuing downward through the wreath to the lowest arrowhead.
3. Die crack from the denticles at 4:15 into the
lowest arrowhead.
4. Die crack from the denticles at 6:45 upward into the
ribbon knot. Rev. AU.2:
A die crack develops from the rim at 2:30 and forms a partial
cud between 2:15 and 2:30. In addition, a break develops at
4:15 that connects the middle and lower arrowheads.
Comments:
Variety 46 was first identified by David
Killough, who submitted the above plate coin for inclusion in this book
based on the Reverse AU die break.
During early March 2018, this author discovered the Variety 46a die
state. During this newly discovered die state, Reverse AU
continues to deteriorate with the development of a die crack at 2:30
and subsequent formation of a parital cud between 2:15 and 2:30.
In addition, Reverse AU develops a break at 4:15 that
connects the middle and lower arrowheads. Although the
partial cud between 2:15 and 2:30 cannot be described as a cud during
the 46a die state, I do
fully expect that a subsequent die state of Reverse AU will be fouund
with a cud in this area.
