Obverse 38 is identified by date placement at RE and date repunching
that features initial date impressions to the south under the serif of
the 1, to the south within both loops of the first 8 and to the south
within the lower loop of the second 8. Obverse 38 has developed
heavy die flow lines and has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye
of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AK.
Reverse AK is rotated 5 degrees clockwise. Reverse AK is in a
similar die state as Obverse 38, with the advancement of heavy die flow
lines. Reverse AK has acquired a clash mark through the C of CENT
from a clashing event with Obverse 38.
Comments:
Variety 37 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the
above plate coin during late July 2017 for inclusion in this book based
on the Obverse 38 date repunching.
