Obverse 40 is observed with date placement at LH.  Obverse 40 has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AO and has developed the following die crack:
1.  Die crack connecting the tops of 'OF (AM)ERICA'.
Obverse 40.2:  Obverse 40 has developed the following additional die crack:
2.  Die crack from the rim at 10:15 extends along the tops of 'STA(TES)' and exits into the rim at 12:00.

Reverse AO is rotated 6 degrees counter clockwise.  Reverse AO has acquired a clash marks from a clashing event with Obverse 40 and has developed die cracking.
Reverse AO.2:  The die cracking of Reverse AO has become incrementally more severe and a partial die break has now formed within the left wreath between 9:00 and 9:45.

Comments:  1887 Variety 35 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the Variety 35a Plate Coin during mid May 2021 for inclusion in this book based on the die cracking of Obverse 40 and Reverse AO.
