Reverse I.2 Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 9 is identified by date placement at LE and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south below the tops of the 8, 6 and 5.  Obverse 9 has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse I.

Reverse I is rotated 6 degrees clockwise and has acquired clash marks above (O)NE, through (C)ENT and above ON(E) from a clashing event with Obverse 9.  Reverse I has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 12:30 extends downward into the top right of the shield.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 1:30 extends upward through the upper portion of the right wreath.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 3:30 extends into the right wreath.
4.  Die crack from the rim at 6:15 extends upward through the left ribbon end and into the ribbon knot.
5.  Die crack from the rim at 9:45 extends downward through the left wreath.
6.  Die crack just above die crack #5 from the rim at 9:45 extends upward through the left wreath.
Rev. I.2:  The Reverse I die cracks have now become more severe.

Comments:  Variety 7 represents the initial usage of Obverse 9, which will resume service paired with Reverse AAI during the 1865 Plain 5 Variety 21 Die Pairing.
