Clash Marks To The Right Of The Denomination


Obverse 27 is observed with date placement at LE.  Obverse 27 has acquired clash marks between feathers 8 and 9 from a clashing event with Reverse AZ.

Reverse AZ is rotated 9 degrees counter clockwise and has acquired clash marks to the right of the denomination from a clashing event with Obverse 27.  Reverse AZ develops the following die cracks:
1.  Heavy die crack from the rim at 12:30 into the top right of the shield.
2.  Heavy die crack from the rim at 2:15 downward through the right wreath to the middle arrowhead.
3.  Moderately heavy die crack from the denticles at 3:45 and through the bottom edge of the middle arrowhead to the middle of the lower arrowhead.

Comments:  The Reverse AZ die cracking between 2:15 and 3:45 is severe  and may yield a break in a subsequent die state.

Variety 31 was first identified by this author during mid May 2018.
