Obverse
1 is now in its second die pairing with no appreciable die state
difference from its former service during the variety 1 die pairing.
Reverse AP
is rotated 6 degrees counter clockwise and may be identified by a small
die chip on the bottom left of the E of ONE. Reverse P is
observed with extensive die polish lines and two sets of die clashes,
which are seen to the right o the denomination.
Comments:
Obverse 1 was previously in service with reverse Q during the
variety 1 die pairing.
During the variety 1 die pairing, obverse 1 exhibits date
repunching only on the 1 and 5, whereas the variety 24 die pairing
exhibits repunching on the entire date. I do not have a
conclusive answer to why this is, but the repunching visible during the
obverse 1.2 die state is obvious.
The positioning of the die clashes of reverse AP indicate two separate
die clash events, one set at normal coin turn alignment and the second
set at a small rotation that most probably equates to the rotation
measured on the plate coin.
The variety 24 die pairing was first identified during mid August 2015
by this author on a coin for sale by Ed Nathanson. Ed was
kind enough to submit his coin for attribution and inclusion in this
book.
