Die Cracking Between 3:15 and 4:30

Partial Cud Between 4:00 and 4:30

Obv. 18.2 Retained Cud Between 4:00 and 4:30

Obverse 18 is observed with date placement at RE.  Obverse 18 has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 4:30 extends upward and connects the tops of 'AM(ERI)CA' and exits into the rim at 3:15.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 4:00 extends into the top of 'AMER(I)CA' and intersects die crack #1.  A partial cud has now formed between 4:00 and 4:30.
3.  A die crack extends downward from die crack #1 into 'AMERIC(A)'.
Obv. 18.2:  Obverse 18 has now formed a retained cud between 4:00 and 4:30.

Reverse AI has yet to be observed with any die markers.

Comments:  The Obverse 18 die break was first identified in 'The Cud Book' by Sam Thurman and Arnold Margolis, with a reference number of IC-1865-12.  The Obverse 18 die break in 'The Cud Book' was a full cud and represents a subsequent Obverse 18 die state where the Obverse 18.2 retained cud was absent due to either falling from the Obverse 18 working die by the forces of gravity (the obverse working die was the hammer die) or adhering to the obverse working die during a strike and subsequently being ejected.
