* The AU58 date repunching is courtesy of Rick Snow and was the Snow 2003 plate coin.
Obverse
7 is identified by repunching to the south on the 1865, a possible misplaced digit between the ribbon and hair curl and date
placement at C. Obverse 7 is observed with clash marks between
feathers 7, 8 and 9. Obverse 7 has developed the following die
crack: 1. Die crack from the rim at 2:30 and continuing southward connecting the tops of MERIC of AMERICA.
Reverse
X is rotated 5 degrees clockwise. Reverse X is observed with
clash marks to the right of the denomination. Reverse X has
developed the following die cracks: 1. Die Crack from the rim at 1:30 continuing into the wreath, where a small die break occurs. 2. Radial die crack from the rim at 3:30 continuing into the wreath. 3. Die crack from the denticles at 5:00 extending up through the wreath stem and ribbon knot. 4. Die crack from the denticles at 10:30 extending into the wreath. 5. Die crack from the rim at 11:30 and extending into the top left of the shield.
Comments: The
date repunching for obverse 7 is visible only on the 5 for the plate
coin, so an AU58 example was added to illustrate the exact repunching.
Rick Snow indicated the 18 was repunched to the north, however
his illustration indicates the repunching is to the south.
The
area defined by the die crack from the denticles at 2:30 to the top of
the M of AMERICA is at a lower depth within the working die, which may
indicate the beginning of a cud for the entire area from 2:30 to the C
of AMERICA.
The misplaced digit between the ribbon and the hair curl is most likely a 6.
