1865 Fancy 5 Variety 6
Obverse Diagnostics
 Date Position | Repunched 18 to the South | Repunched 65 |
Reverse Diagnostics
Die Crack from 4:00 | Die Crack from 8:15 |
Obverse 5 is identified by date placement at RE and repunching to the south on the 18 and north on the 65.
Reverse
V is observed with die cracks from the rim at 4:00 and 8:15 and clash marks located to the right of the denomination.
Comments:
The repunching of obverse 5 is to the south even though the
repunching visible on the 65 is to the north. The date punch
initially contacted the face of the working die to the south and at a
sharp upward slope compared to the final date impression.
Therefore, remnants of the 65 may be seen above these digits
because of the slope of the initial date impression.
