Rev. AAP.2 Cud Between 11:15 and 12:30

Reverse AAP Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 64 is observed date placement at RE.  Obverse 64 develops the following die cracks:
1.  Heavy die crack from the rim at 10:00 connecting the tops of 'ATE' of STATES to the rim at 11:15
2.  Die crack from the die crack of #1 above the A of STATES connects 'ED STA' of UNITED STATES.

Reverse AAP develops a retained cud between 11:15 and 12:30 and the following die crack:
1.  Light die crack from the denticles at 5:45 through the ribbon end to the base of the first olive leaf.
Rev. AAP.2:  The retained break is now absent, allowing metal to flow into the void left behind and creating a full cud.

Comments:  Variety 66 was first identified by this author during late July 2016.  During late December 2017, Sam Sloat Coins discovered the Variety 66a incremental die state with the absence of the retained break and the formation of the full cud of Reverse AAP.

During mid August 2023, David Killough submitted a higher grade example of Variety 66a to replace the former 66a Plate Coin images from Sam Sloat Coins.  David's example features an artifact below 'STAT(ES)' that I don't recall observing when I first published the Variety 66 Page, though I most likely overlooked it.
